LEARNER GUIDE
As a professional learner, you arrive to these conversations with expertise, experience, and curiosity. The goal of these kits is to build your community connections, build knowledge, and continuously develop your expertise as an educator. As a professional learner your role is to learn, question, solve problems, consolidate and integrate new learning into your teaching and learning practice. Here are some suggestions to get the most out of your experience:
Focus on goals
Having a clear goal for your learning will help focus your time in the conversation. Your goal could change and evolve during the conversation; it doesn’t have to be static, but creating a clear learning target or purpose for yourself will help your learning. The kits are designed to have broad overarching goals so professional learners can choose their own directions and customize the experience. That will work best if you have clear goals or problems to learn about that align with the broader goal of the module.
Active learning
As a learner you are highly individual, yet will have commonalities with your fellow learners. Active, not passive, learning will make this experience more relevant, build connection, deepen your knowledge. Setting a goal is a part of that; so is using active learning strategies and monitoring your progress toward your goal or to solve your problem.
Customizing the time
The sessions you create from these kits are based on your learning needs and goals. It will be impossible to cover all topics or extensions in one session, but perhaps multiple session would help. As a learner, this is a pathway to decide with you and your facilitator. These kits are intended to be a flexible guide with a buffet of options, not a prescriptive one-size-fits-all.
